 What is a doula?

A doula is a professional who is trained to assist a woman during childbirth and who may provide support to the family after the baby is born, but that's not all! We also walk alongside mommies during the prenatal and postpartum periods, and we are a source of education throughout the pregnancy, birth, and new mommy days. Additionally, we are advocates for the mother's rights beliefs and birthing requests.
Our Journey Together
Getting acquainted...
I will meet with you (and your partner) at least once before labor to become acquainted, to explore and discuss your priorities and any fears or concerns, to discuss your birth plan and to plan how we can best work together. I also want to know your own best ways of coping with pain and fatigue and how you and your partner foresee working together before, during and after the birthing process.
When you're in labor...
I prefer that you call me when you think you are in labor, even if you do not yet need me. I can answer questions and make suggestions over the phone. Once I join you, either at home or in the hospital, I will remain with you throughout labor and birth.

After birth...
I usually remain with you for one to two hours after birth, until you are comfortable and your family is ready for quiet time together. I can also help with initial breastfeeding, if necessary.
I am available to answer questions about the birth or your baby and would like to get together with you within a few weeks to see how you and your baby are doing, to review the birth, and to get feedback from you about my role.
