Shannon Serrano, CD(DONA)
Serving women in labor is my passion.
I am a mother of four boisterous children of my own. My own labors, my training with DONA International, and my professional experience have provided me with a wealth of knowledge in maternal care and general women's care.

As a born and raised native of the Washington, DC metropolitan area, it is important to me to service the women of this locale. I believe in educating women with the knowledge they need in order to make informed decisions pertaining to their care before, during and after labor. I have a strong conviction that every woman should be afforded the support that she needs during labor. Serving as a doula is not only my profession, it is my passion.

I draw on my own professional training, knowledge and experience to provide emotional support, physical comfort and, as needed, communication with medical staff to make sure that you have the information needed to make informed decisions during your labor. I can provide reassurance and perspective to you (and your partner), make suggestions for labor progress, and help with relaxation, soothing touch, positioning and other techniques for comfort. I am independent and self-employed. As your doula, I am working for you, not your caregiver or the hospital.

I currently offer my doula services on a volunteer basis to teens who are enrolled in the Holy Cross Hospital Teen Program, I partner with the Rockville Pregnancy Center in offering their participants with affordable doula services, and I also serve as a Special Ops Doula to the military families that are local to my area. When I'm not supporting women in labor, I can often be found cheering my children on in tackle or flag football or on the swim team, or hosting a delicious meal with family and friends in my home.
